To accurately assess the personality of a child at this age, we need to perform standard tests and after analyzing the results of them, the exact schema of the child’s personality will be determined. To analyze the child’s personality at this age, six tests are common to use, (five tests for the child and one test for the parents):

  • Goodenough Test (D.A.P):

  • The “Tree test”:

It is one of the most important and standard tests at this age, which due to its simple application and numerous research support, has been highly regarded by experts for analyzing different aspects of the children’s personality. In this test, the child’s way of thinking about him/herself, the environment, others, parents, family members, his/her personality structures inner thoughts, repressed emotions, positive and negative emotions, attitude to the future, present and past are evaluated.

  • “Free Drawing” test:

Another important test to identify children’s personality is the free drawing test in which the mental, psychological, and emotional structures and also the way of thinking of the child are evaluated according to the drawn elements and components of his/her painting, and, as a result, the behavior and the general personality of the child will be represented.

  • The C.A.T test:

The Child Apperception Test is a projective personality test used to assess children’s personalities. The purpose of this test is to help the child understand the relationship between those around him/her, and for determination of the child’s defense mechanisms that he/she uses for compatibility, as well as to identify his/her tendencies, conflicts, competitions, or fears.

  • The Rorschach Test

This test is a kind of a projection test in which people express their perception from strange ink stains, and based on their interpretation and perception, expert psychologists diagnose the person’s personality type or emotional function, or even their mental disorders.

  • MIQ Test

This test could be taken with the aim of examining the talents, job orientations and abilities of the child. By the result of this test, the following features are evaluated:

This test is done by the parents (Mother and father can do the test together, or the parent who knows the child better can do this).

    Instructions

    To perform the test accurately, please follow the instructions below carefully:

    Step One:  Give the child a set of colored pencils including seven colors: blue, green, red, yellow, purple, brown, and black.

    Step Two: Give the child a regular black pencil.

    Step Three: Give the child an eraser and a pencil-sharpener.

    Step Four: Place an A4 size paper in front of the child vertically.

    Step Five: Now ask the child: “Draw a person on this paper as well as you can, and then paint it if you want.

    Note

    The test order must be performed exactly as it was mentioned, and if any changes are applied in the test process or the child is told additional sentences, the result will change significantly and will be invalidated. The child should be allowed to draw as he wishes, without any assistance, criticism, or indoctrination. You can only encourage the child by saying “Good, keep going” when he/she has doubts while drawing. If the child asks about the method, tell him/her: you can draw in any way that you want, it will certainly be nice.”

    The child should feel free to choose the location of the person on the paper, its dimensions, the direction of the paper which might be different from the direction you handed him/her, the material of the person, the use of the ruler, adding elements other than the specified subject, colors to pain or even to refuse to paint with colors. Since all these choices made by the child could be meaningful in the analysis of the test, any interference in the process of drawing will change the report and might lead to an improper analysis. As a result, follow the test exactly as instructed and do not interfere in the child’s drawing process in any way.

    Step Six: Download the form related to this section, track the child’s drawing at the same time and answer the questions in the form.

    Step Seven: Now take a photo of the child’s drawing and upload it along with the completed form in this section.

    Note that to avoid possible errors due to illegibility, you must type the form before uploading it.

    Step Eight: Give the child crayons, black pencils, erasers, and pencil-sharpeners, then place an A4 size paper in front of him/her vertically and ask him/her to draw a tree.

    Note:

    Note that you shouldn’t state anything other than the sentence “draw a tree” and do not interfere in the drawing process in any way. Let the child finishes his/her painting freely as he/she wishes. Note that any interference with the child’s drawing process interferes with the test results, and if the child asks a question about how to draw or whether he/she can add or remove something or not, just answer:Whatever you want”.

    Step Nine: After performing the Tree Test, take a photo of the child’s drawing and upload it in this section.

    Step Ten: Give the child crayons, black pencils, erasers, and pencil-sharpeners, then place an A4 size paper in front of him/her vertically and ask him/her to draw a picture of his/her choice. You can draw anything you like”.

    Note:

    Note that you do not tell the child anything other than the sentence, You can draw anything you like and you do not interfere in the process of drawing in any way Let the child finishes his/her painting freely as he/she wishes. Note that any interference with the child’s drawing process interferes with the test results, and if the child asks a question about how to draw or whether he/she can add or remove something or not, just answer: Whatever you want”.

    Step Eleven: When the child finishes drawing, take a photo of it and upload it in this section.

    If the child feels tired or bored at the end of a test, you can give him/her a short break and start the next test when he/she is ready. Note that, through the process of doing the tests, if you do all the steps in the form of a game, the child will enjoy the process of doing the test and spending time with you.

    Note that this test should be done by you as the child’s parent or guardian and there is no need for the child to participate in this test.
